Does Size Really Matter? Discover The Real Story So You Don’t Come Up Short!

Hey guys and gals, now that I have your attention, let’s take your mind back to marketing.  I was on an amazing Tribe call last week and we were tossing around ideas and BAM it hit me like a ton of bricks – it is not necessary to stress about the length of your blog posts. As a matter of fact, short blog posts can be extremely powerful.  The most important thing to do is to provide extreme value to your readers.  That’s it… no more, no less.  If you can give value to your readers in only one or two paragraphs, then simply keep it short and sweet.

There are some other huge benefits to keeping your blog posts short…

1)      Your readers will actually read your message.  Sometimes when your posts are really long and your reader is pressed for time, he or she will  ignore the post and miss the value you have to offer simply because they are overwhelmed when they think about how long the post is going to take them to read.

2)      You will get more comments on your post.  Why? Because your readers will be able to process the information in your post in a very short period of time allowing them time to leave a comment.

3)      Your readers will not be overwhelmed.  Many times when we write extremely long posts, we are trying to get across too many ideas at one time.  The reader may enjoy the content, but feel overwhelmed with the amount of information they are trying to process in a short period of time.

4)      More readers will share your post with others.  When your readers are able to absorb your content in short, valuable blurbs; they will be more likely to share it with their friends.

5)      You can maximize your content creation. You can break up long posts into shorter posts and create a series allowing you to maximize your time and have more content spread out over your blog.

So you see… size really doesn’t matter; quality does.  More actually can mean less.

If you resonate with this and have some ideas or encouraging words to share, I’d love to hear from you down below. And if you think the people over on Twitter would benefit, a ReTweet is always appreciated too, and if you think your FaceBook following would benefit from these words feel free to share them with your friends.

Wishing you prosperity and joy,

Scott

  1. Scott! Were you talking to me? I’m really working to pare down the size of my blogs now.

This week I am dividing it into two parts just to make it shorter.

    Thanks for the reminder.

    Sandy,

    Scott,
You have brought up a great point! The length is not as important as the content. That’s a great idea to break it up into smaller posts if you have a few points you wish to chat about.

Thanks for the timely reminder on what is important and what is not,
    Val :)

  3. Aloha Scott,

You are so funny. :) I love your title! Yes, concise and precise is the way. You have so much great information to share and I am looking forward to your future posts.

    Mahalo (thank you),
    Kellie :)

    Hi Scott,

I completely agree – the longer the blog, the less people will read it all. I am all about short and valuable. As Emily Dickinson said, sorry, my letter is too long. Had a had more time, it would have been shorter.
    Longer doesn’t mean professional.

    Thanks for the wise reminder,
    Venus :)

  5. Hey Scott, I agree with the points you make here. Less is more, something I need to work on in my posts. Keeping it short and sweet while engaging people with relevant, helpful, interesting content. Thanks for sharing!

  6. This post is a perfect example of your point, Scott. It’s short, to the point, and VERY valuable. I think I’ll try taking your advice and break up some of my future blogs into a series, or into individual shorter blogs.

You got me thinking, bro, and in just a few paragraphs! Thanks.

  7. It’s nice to see that someone besides me likes to write short posts. I keep things brief and sometimes struggle to fill in a blog post with enough stuff to make it long enough. Good to know I can just say what I want and be done.

    Great post Scott,

    Quality not Quantity I say!

As a Teacher I ask students to tell me what they know
and I don’t need them to take 5 pages to do so! Get to
the point but write it in proper fashion.

In today’s society, time is pressed so we do tend to scan
    more then we do read.

Short and sweet will definitely bring more visits to ones
    blog…..

    Cheers
    Steve

Scott – I often wondered about this – so good point. You are right that it is all about the content!

    You’ve got my vote Scott!

You ever notice how some newspaper comic strips have been going strong for 50 plus years?

They know how to create a great serial story that sucks people in and has them coming back for more.

    Entertain and provoke thought!

    Well done.

    Joe

Aww Scott, thanks for writing this post for me! ;)

I completely agree with everything you said here, and yet somehow sit down to write and my posts end up way too long. I think I was meant to be a novelist, not a blogger! I am committed to creating some shorter posts after reading this, however!

This post is a perfect example ~ short, effective and extremely valuable. Thanks so much!
